It's an odd concept, having interior "trends". Like, how many of you can actually be bothered to change your house around to fit in with what's "cool" at the moment?
The truth is, of course, you can't. We're not millionaires and anyway, who has the time to remodel with the seasons when you (probably) don't even own your house? What you can do, though, is add little bits here and there from various trends to keep your house feeling fresh and individual.
Here we've rounded up some of the best small home decor bits featuring next year's big colours so you can get ahead of the game.

Petrol Blue
Petrol blue, as in "teal" or "Inchyra Blue" (as Farrow and Ball and nobody else is calling it). This looks to be the outstanding colour for next year, finally taking the place of the still-hot "greenery" trend. We can probably put the growing success of teal down to the seemingly unstoppable return of the '80s and the bright jewel tones that are coming along with it.

Try this vase from Oliver Bonas (£28) or give your couch an update with these super cheap cushion covers from HEMA (£7). Dinner party-givers should consider this Silvia K Ceramics serving platter (£90), which is good enough to distract from any kitchen disasters you may have had. Or if you want something for your bedroom, this budget-friendly duvet set from H&M (£17.99) is ideal.

Red
For those of you who didn't notice, red is just about everywhere right now. From the catwalks this past fashion month, to the passionate rhetoric of the moment, red is well and truly the colour (literally) on everyone's lips.

Old record players will never stop looking attractive and this Crosley console from Oliver Bonas (£279) is another great example. If you fancy matching your interiors to your clothes, take a look at this Bella Freud 1970 cushion (£160) from Rockett St. George. On the cheaper end, head to Trouva to find this Day of the Dead cushion (£40) by Oklahoma or head to Hurn & Hurn for this lovely red jug (£10).

Yellow
One of Pantone's (pretty much the last word when it comes to matters of a colourful nature) eight colour palettes for next year is called "Playful " and consists of bright, fun colours like lime green and, yep, yellow. Boy have those Minions got their claws deeper into popular culture than we thought. Did you know there's even a Pantone colour called "Minion Yellow "?

If going all-out yellow scares you a bit, take a look at this cushion (£50) or indeed this vase (£25), which both tone down the yellow using other neutral colours – both are from Habitat.
To get the full "Playful" spectrum, you might want to invest in these VERY bright dinner plates from HEMA (£3) or this clock (£29) with hidden storage capabilities from IKEA PS.

Black and white
Monochrome is perhaps one of the most enduring trends of our time and now, it's making another bid for stardom. Nancy Fire, founder of Design Works International, has already spotted black and white across Paris, Madrid and Lisbon.

Black and white doesn't have to be serious. It can be whimsical, too – look at this candle (£10) from Trouva for proof. Update your cookware with this spotty Dalmation baking tray (£20). Or nail two trends in one with this monochrome face line drawing on a pot (£55) from Rockett St. George.
Monochrome also lends itself well to clocks; look at this one (£41) from Hurn & Hurn. Or use your words by spelling out something with these black and white letters (£72) from The Letter Loft on Etsy.

Dusty Pink
It was "Rose Quartz" when it was 2016's Pantone Colour of the Year, "Millennial Pink" in 2017, and it's not going away any time soon. Dulux has named its colour of the year for 2018 "Heart Wood", which looks suspiciously like yet another incarnation of this pink hue. Clearly, we just can't get enough.

Do you eat breakfast in bed à la Princess Margaret? You probably should, and this bed tray (£30.50) from Rockett St. George is a great place to start. In fact, this Heal's pink dinnerware (from £10) is also a good idea.
If you want to go the whole hog, take a peek at these velvet, full-length curtains (£34.99) from H&M or this somewhat more muted rug (£95) from French Connection.
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
