Along with sartorial inspiration, each season we have our eyes firmly on the beauty magic whipped up backstage.
Several trends have already emerged from behind-the-scenes at NYFW SS18: first up, rose quartz hair. The second? Statement nails. From Swarovski-embellished talons to the new French manicure, nails were long, bold and bright. Get your next-season inspiration in early – we guarantee your nails will be a talking point next summer. Click through to find the nail art we loved from each fashion week this SS18.
New York-based nail artist Miss Pop created a nude fishnet pattern for the good-girl-gone-bad look at Moschino.
Nail artist Marian Newman adorned models' nails with white floral 3D detailing at Ryan Lo's show, reflecting the wedding-cum-funeral inspiration behind the collection.
Lauren Michelle Pires hand painted 390 press-on nails for the House of Holland show, using Nails Inc. White Out to create segregated waves on an oval shape.
At Helmut Lang, nail artist Naomi Yasuda created two looks. The first, as modelled here by Slick Woods, is a bold monochrome acrylic, with a black base and white Japanese flower-esque pattern.
The second look Naomi created at Helmut Lang was a square-tipped soft blush base with branded writing. Monograms and slogan nails aren't going anywhere, it seems. See Balenciaga's black BBs on nude nails for AW17.
As always, Jeremy Scott's show was awash with bright colours, which were continued through to nails. Artist Miss Pop used CND Vinylux in Hot Pop Pink and an electric orange Creative Play shade to give models long, oval-tipped nails with a matte finish. The fun didn't stop there, with fingers covered in silver glitter, matching the model's bejewelled eyes.
Nail artist Holly Falcone gave girls high-shine postbox-red nails at Adam Selman, as seen here on model Herieth Paul. The soft stiletto point made the talons even more extreme.
At Area NYC, the sparkle didn't stop. You'd be forgiven for thinking Paris Hilton circa 2000 was the inspiration behind the look, with Naomi Yasuda adorning girls' nails with racing stripes of Swarovski crystals on a chrome purple base.
At Philipp Plein, nail artist Mei Kawajiri gave models either nude or oil-slick black bases with supersize 3D crystal embellishments. There's a trend emerging from NYFW: go big or go home.
Mei Kawajiri kept the sparkle coming at Tom Ford, where she used rose-gold glitter and black polish to create an ombre-effect nail on soft-pointed acrylics.
Opening Ceremony provided minimalist relief from the extravagance of other shows. Naomi Yasuda used black and white matte polish to reinvent the French manicure with a checkerboard pattern.

Trust Rihanna to bring out scene-stealing nails. Electric blue, orange, green and yellow nails were seen at Fenty x Puma, with square tips and extra length. With nail design led by Tracey Reierson, patterned acrylics were also provided by Young Nails Inc in motocross checkerboard – in line with the collection's theme – and tropical sunset motifs.
