This heat is Too. Much. Why can't a British summer just play nice, rather than give us rain and wind, or cloud and 150% humidity? Whether you walk to work or take the Tube, by the time you reach your desk your face has practically melted. Then, of course, there's the ongoing saga of the office air-con...
Summer can become one long battle with your makeup, from bleeding lip liner to creased eyeshadow via dissolved foundation and weepy mascara. The answer? Long-wear makeup, ready for the pool, the commute and the sun. Makeup that won't require a top-up at lunchtime and will allow us to get on with our day, safe in the knowledge it's staying firmly put.
Click through to see the pick of the bunch when it comes to makeup that beats the heat.

Base
Waterproof makeup shouldn't just mean mascara. MAC's Pro Longwear Foundation, which comes in 24 shades, can be used as foundation or concealer, lasts through sweaty nights in the club, and blends seamlessly so it doesn't feel heavy on the skin.
MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation, £27, available at Selfridges

This liquid concealer is creamy but light, builds well and is matte – so no drawing attention to shine when it's already hot.
Artdeco Long Wear Concealer Waterproof, £13.40, available at Beauty Bay

Tom Ford makes some of our favourite makeup, and the brand's first waterproof formula doesn't disappoint. We apply this with a damp sponge, which works particularly well under dark eyes – it ain't budging.
Tom Ford Waterproof Foundation, £66, available at Selfridges

Mascara
Too Faced's number one bestseller now comes in waterproof, which is great news for us as the formula makes our eyelashes as thick, moisturised and dramatic as the original.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara, £19, available at Selfridges

We love the little tube and curved wand of Eyeko's mascara. This one really goes the distance – we've worn it through sweaty spin classes and it hasn't smudged a bit.
Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara, £19, available at Beauty Bay

This is perfect if you're on holiday or going away for a long weekend. The mascara leaves a semi-permanent stain, so you're left with defined and lengthened lashes for three days. All you need is a top-up curl and you're good to go.
Wunderextensions Lash Extension Stain Mascara, £19.95, available at Wunder2

Eyeliner
While this waterproof gel liner has staying power, it doesn't compromise on pigment or easy application. We're using an angled brush to apply our cat flick. Particularly great for hooded eyes, which usually have transfer issues from liner to upper lid, this one won't cause you any trouble.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Waterproof Crème Colour, £18, available at Cult Beauty

This gel eyeliner glides on, but doesn't dry so fast that you can't blend. It comes in a variety of shades, from classic brown to vibrant purple – we use black on our waterline, and electric blue to create graphic liner. It won't spread across your eye, either.
Milani Stay Put Waterproof Eyeliner, £10, available at Beauty Bay

The handy nib on Stila's eyeliner makes for easy application – even beginners can achieve a cat flick. It does what it says on the tin and stays all day, and comes in greys, greens, blues and gold.
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, £14.50, available at Selfridges

Eyeshadow
Clio's Gelspresso shadow sticks are divine. They're so pigmented, even a quick smudge gives you a bold eye. Our favourites are this orange and the heavy metal grey – use all over the eyelid or take a thin brush to create under-eye liner.
Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Stick Shadow, £14.40, available at Cult Beauty

3INA's The Cream shadow was created with long nights in mind. The shade range is huge and, true to the brand, super-colourful. We also love its latest offering of neon shades, which react to UV light: perfect for festival season.
3INA The Cream Eyeshadow, £8.95, available at 3INA

You may have noticed that we're huge fans of eyeshadow sticks – the application means no need for brushes on the go. A single coat gives a bright-eyed daytime look; two or three coats and your eyes will pop. This golden hue really brings out green eyes.
Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow Fresh Effect Eyeshadow, £23, available at Debenhams

Brows
Brows are usually the last thing we think of on hearing the words 'waterproof makeup' but they're no safer than your mascara when the weatherman brings the heat. This product from MAC is a favourite, thanks to its highly pigmented colour. The gel sets your hairs so they keep their shape all day, too.
MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set, £14.50, available at Selfridges

This brow tamer is great for fair-haired folk, as the colour range is wide. Not only is it waterproof but the formula is full of antioxidants including nettle and green tea, meaning your brows will stay strong and thick.
It Cosmetics Brow Power Waterproof Perfector, £18, available at Selfridges

The big daddy of affordable eye makeup, Eylure's Brow Designer gives you natural-looking brows while defining your shape. We keep this in our bag for caught-in-the-rain days.
Eylure Brow Designer, £5.45, available at Feel Unique
